If you love gadgets, you will love to know that several high-tech car features are available today specifically to make your car journey safer as well as a more pleasurable experience.

A car journey may not always be a pleasant experience. But, now, there are several gadgets and technologies available that make driving a safer, less taxing, and a more enjoyable experience.

Technological advancements have been taking place in multiple sectors and the automotive industry has a track record in always taking innovation to the next level. It is progressing so fast that each year there is something new for us to experience or to consider. Cars today are designed using several innovative technologies that assist in keeping us safer and make driving experiences easier.

1. Blind Spot Monitor

Most of us have experienced the panic of swerving to avoid another car that was not visible moments before. Blind spot monitors avoiding this situation. Though these tend to differ from one manufacturer to another, they basically work in the same way. They help to find out whether there are any unseen vehicles in the blind spots of your vehicle.

The blind spot monitors keep a tab of the lanes to your left and right, as well as the spots behind your shoulder where it is hard for you to see. As soon as a car enters a blind spot, it alerts you.

There are also a few vehicles that also steer away from other vehicles so preventing accidents.

2. Adaptive Headlights

Adaptive headlights offer a better view of the road around curves and bends. This ensures improved safety while driving at night. Conventional headlights illuminate the road straight ahead. When you are taking a turn, they illuminate the side of the road, leaving the street ahead of you in complete darkness.

Adaptive headlights turn the direction of the beams based on input received from your steering. Thus, the intended path of the vehicle gets illuminated rather than the unintended path of the vehicle.

Also, there are sensors in adaptive headlights that prevent them from turning on when there is no need. As an example, they won’t activate if your car is not moving or if it is reversing.

3. Inflatable Seat Belts

The objective of inflatable seat belts lies in protecting the individual by spreading the force of a crash over a larger area of the chest when compared with conventional seat belts. Quite often they are found in the backseats of vehicles. These seat belts reduce chest and rib case injuries.

4. Lane Detection Systems

Lane detection systems function by monitoring the lane markings on the road. As soon as you begin to drift towards a lane marking in the road you will be alerted by the system. Mistakes and instances of drift across lanes are detected by the technology and help to prevent a crash from taking place. The system provides an audible alarm and visual indication on the dashboard as a means of warning you.

5. Auto Braking

The automatic braking system in a car anticipates potential accidents due to proximity thereby helping to save lives.

Some vehicles have this feature as standard but it is quite often only available in the guise of an option.

As soon as this feature detects that a collision is imminent due to the close proximity of an object, the brakes are automatically applied. This either prevents the accident from occurring or it substantially reduces the impact of a collision.

Similar to lane keeping and autonomous cruise control, automatic braking is also regarded as a precursor to completely autonomous and driverless vehicles.

6. Heated Windshield

While driving in some climatic conditions, you may face difficulties in seeing through the windshield. Ice, rain or snow, have a significant impact on visibility, making it tough to drive safely. A heated windshield can create the difference between safe and unsafe driving. These windshields prevent snow and ice build-up in winter, helping you to drive your vehicle with more efficiency. Heated windshields have a fine heating element embedded within the glass that creates heat due to its electrical resistance. The elements are so fine that they are not visible during driving.

7. Electronic Stability Control

Driving safety took a huge leap forward with the introduction of electronic stability control. Significant time has passed since its first introduction and it’s commonly provided by several manufacturers today.

Electronic stability control helps drivers to avoid accidents by reducing the risk of skidding. The probability of losing control of a vehicle due to over-steering is reduced substantially with this feature.

Electronic stability control works through the use of an array of intelligent sensors. They detect a loss of control at the wheels of the vehicle and apply braking to some of the wheels, or they reduce the power to some of the wheels, helping the car to steer to its intended path.

To protect your car and prevent it from being stolen, you can opt for personalised registration plates. You can also use theft resistant car number plates. They make it very tough for the vehicle number plates to be stolen. Using them will keep your car more secure as it will be more easily identifiable.

The above technologies help to improve safety and hold the key to safer driving for motorists in the future. With these technologies, we can be assured that driving cars in the coming years will be safer as well as being significantly more convenient.
