The Essential Spring Cleaning Guide

Published:

It’s Spring Cleaning time again! It’s great to get on top of your place from time to time and get a really good deep clean under your belt. But the whole process can be exhausting, so how can you make it as easy as possible? Let’s go through some simple steps to make your Spring Clean as easy as possible

The Floors

Cleaning the floors can be a daunting prospect, but it doesn’t have to be. If you have a hard floor, then you have to be careful with detergents, as using the wrong one will leave your floor looking dull and feeling sticky. The best option is a couple of tablespoons of dish soap in a bucket of warm water. Make sure you don’t get your mop too wet, as that will leave streaks when it dries.

If you have a carpet or rug, your options on a budget can be more limited, as steam cleaners and carpet shampoo can get expensive. It may surprise you to learn that professional carpet and oriental rug cleaning can be the most affordable option, especially when you consider the quality of the cleaning and the weight off of your mind. This is almost the same as how companies that offer commercial carpet cleaning services do it, so apart from the option of hiring a professional cleaner, you may consider this option as a viable alternative.

The Kitchen

When it comes to kitchen cleaning on a budget, baking soda is your new best friend. Apply a light sprinkle of baking soda over your countertops, let it stand for a few minutes, and then give it a good wipe with warm water.

You can even make a paste out of baking soda and water to work into stains on your hobs. A cleaning brush works a treat to get the paste into all the nooks and crannies and to work it back out again.

A lot of people don’t like using detergent in the microwave, so try microwaving a bowl full of water and lemon peel for about a minute, then have a good wipe inside. The steam will lift and dirt and make it easy to clean, while the lemon will leave the inside smelling fresh and feeling great.

The Bathroom

The bathroom can take a lot of time. Every surface needs spraying and wiping down, which means you can easily burn through a pack of wipes or cloths in one go. The best solution to this is to buy reusable cloths, as one investment now means you’ll be wiping for months – even years! Just throw them in the washing machine when you’re done and they’re ready to use again.

Nothing is worse than a blocked drain, especially in a shower. The average unblocker can be quite expensive and they can usually only be used once. A blocked drain can lead to all sorts of problems like bad smells and a buildup of dirt around the bathtub where the water doesn’t drain.

It’s time for baking soda to come to the rescue again! Try pouring half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by a mixture of vinegar and warm water, let that sit for five minutes (you should hear it fizzing), then pour a kettle full of boiling water down the drain to clear it out. Works every time!
